Help Me 03:09
Tell me what do you dream about? What keeps you up in the night? Is there something I cannot see Hiding from me, in plain sight? Cause time waits for your skin to relax a little So be careful of holding on Some shadows have grown too long Help me help you Help me help you Help me, help me Tell me why are you crying now? What waters run through your heart? How can we begin to speak If we cannot even breathe ? Time waits in the dark to reset a little Don’t move, don’t think, don’t scream I’m standing between you and me Help me help you Help me help you Help me, help me Cause time waits and waits So relax a little

LYRICS Taken by something that I have no means to control A captive of creatures that laugh through the night Until dawn shakes its head out from underground And reason starts to take hold of these healthy distractions Better by half when theories like that have their place immune to the charms of the poison that courses through my natural state like breathing in and staring out into space but these healthy distractions are what’s keeping my hell inside holding back that sunken light that I know I don’t have to see when whenever you’re ‘round so take me up into your arms and feel my body come undone just break me and rebuild me whole With all your comfort chemicals But whatever you do please don’t leave me tonight
3.
Stranded inside your head Ashamed of all the feelings Ashamed of all the dread Reflecting off the mirrors in your mind Slowing down your breathing And settled in your spine Captured by tender fears Aging beyond your years The pain that still lingers in your bones Will it return tomorrow? Has it taken hold? Breathe, breathe and release the ache Scream, scream into empty space and dream of a quiet place Seething in every room Breathing through open wounds Cast out the demons in your throat And hold on to heaven Or maybe just let go
4.
Time, where is the time that's speeding through my life? It’s a wild and a wondrous thing that screams inside me Do you feel when the sun shines or when clouds are in view? Am I making all of this darkness? Am I shadowing you? Breath, patience and joy Burn, break and destroy Swinging in on chandeliers; I'm drunk on my tears Will I learn to be alright in spite of myself? Would you please play that back for me? Would you please help me please? There's a restless lullaby that you can’t seem to shake You hear it when you’re sleeping You sing it when you wake Repeat those empty words and you’ll be fine You’ll be fine…

about

ABOUT
Morning light warms a square in the corner. Curtains flutter over a vent. It’s ok to sit here for a while. There’s safety here. There’s honesty. Love doesn’t fully insulate us from the world outside. But, it creates space to reckon with it, to support one another in processing challenges both shared and individual. That’s the feeling Nightblooms creates on “Help Me,” the first song on their new EP Love Songs for the Apocalypse.

“How can we speak when we can’t even breathe?” Sam Logan sings.

The second in a trilogy of EPs that will eventually make up Nightblooms’ debut, The Slow Decline, the themes of these four songs are intensely personal for Logan. Whereas 2023’s Night Blooms in the Apocalypse centered on global degradation, Love Songs speaks more to what it means to show up for yourself and those you care about in the face of these seemingly insurmountable challenges. It’s about creating space to breathe.

Love is a balm on “Comfort Chemicals.”

“Whatever you do, please don’t leave me tonight,” Logan pleads to close the song, his voice riding on the lush strings of Sleepy Cat Records labelmate Libby Rodenbough.

Love is a mirror on “Restless Lullaby.”

“Am I making all this darkness, am I shadowing you?” Logan asks on “Restless Lullaby,” seeking reassurance.

These four songs mark an inward turn for Logan as a songwriter, while at the same time introducing a wider range of collaborators whose contributions help to take this EP beyond the more sparse arrangements of its predecessor. That fits the overall theme of the EP which affirms that we don’t have to face these challenging times alone.
