Night Blooms in the Apocalypse

GiGi Instantly fell in love w/ Anthropocene. Stumbled upon it totally randomly. The whole EP feels like a rare sound: tightly executed layered complexity effortlessly weaving a lot in to a neat package. Expertly mixed and released at the right moment. There's an element of whimsy that carries through the whole EP which plays well off the various moods relating to this moment of history. It's a pleasing compositional juxtoposition.

Awake in the night and the room is on fire I just held closer to you I'm catching my breath as I cling to my bed Is this nightmare coming true? (Baby you’re dreaming) I’m shivering like the real thing (Baby you’re dreaming) If you say it again, I’ll believe it It's just a matter of time It’s all a matter of time It’s just a matter of time If all that matters is your mind Out of the windows and under the sky I tried my best to stay cool So I'm closing the shutters and lacing the blinds To keep these nightmares from you (Baby you’re screaming) I’m covered but I’m still cowering (Baby you’re screaming) Is anyone else still trembling It’s just a matter of time…

Anthropocene 03:48
Slow decline is speeding up in the sun It chokes my lungs; a beacon lost in the flood A transmission from the other side Where truth’s not lost in the tangle of evidence and lies Where memory shines only from one angle While the continents are drowning under our feet And your monuments are crashing into the sea We’re running out of space We’re running out of time for goodbyes As the anthropocene fades into gray and turns out the light Frozen time is melting into the deep We’re floating down these modern seafront streets Vanishing from our mother’s eyes Whose love is lost and mangled while her foolish children cry And tremble while oceans shriek and strangle While our endless schemes are ending under our watch And our insect drone is fading so sweet and soft We’re running out of space We’re running out of time for goodbyes As the anthropocene fades into gray and turns out the light

If I close my eyes and give into the love divine Will I find some place out beyond the whispering pines? Is it something real you could show to me? Come turn me inside out and then we can begin Will I learn to follow? Will I learn to be alright? But I can’t fake it and I don’t think I’ll make it out alive So say a prayer for me and mine Tell me how to be so I could live and act in harmony A simple change of scene, a different kind of way to breathe That’s all it takes I’m told | many centuries old Come tear me inside out and then we can begin Will I learn to follow? Will I learn to be alright? But I can’t fake it and I don’t think I’ll make it out alive So say a prayer for me and mine

Slow Decline 03:37
Brace yourself it’s extinction season Abandon hope, sanity and reason Another planet's waiting for our plastic The economic opportunity is priceless and tragic Settle in and draw your loved ones nearer It’s getting hot, it’s getting cold, it’s getting clearer Another life, another island's missing Can you repeat yourself? I'm just too busy speaking to be listening Cause we’re on a slow decline It’s living hell we’re living through We’re on a slow decline It’s living hell we’re living through Noisy summers, silent winters fleeting Stable seasons only ever when I’m dreaming Calling out, asking “How can this be real?” You told me once but I clearly I just never learned how to deal With all this slow decline — this living hell, we’re living through We’re on a slow decline I’m living hell, I’m living proof We’re on a slow decline It’s living hell but I’m living well with you

about

The night sounds different. Creaks and knocks otherwise ignored are investigated. The voices inside are louder as well.

Did I lock the door? Can I pay the rent? Will I get sick? Will the rising seas wash it all away?

Nightblooms was conceived in a panic.

“What started as a late night panic attack during the depths of the pandemic ended up being the first song I wrote for this new project,” said Sam Logan, Nightblooms’ primary songwriter.

That song, “Matters of Time, (ft. Chessa Rich)” exemplifies the duality of Nightblooms. The anxiety presented in the lyrics is balanced by breezy guitars and synths. Chessa Rich’s vocals allow for a deep breath between verses that hyperventilate.

On “Anthropocene,” a finger-picked guitar tumbles downhill as Logan considers the irreversible damage caused by the exploitation of the environment. “We’re running out of space/We’re running out of time,” he concludes.

Across "Night Blooms in the Apocalypse," Logan covers our shared anxieties. The deterioration of the planet and those who profit from it, the comfort and corruption of religion, and our global slide into chaos. These heavy themes float across four tracks that shimmer.

“This is an attempt to tackle heavy themes and ideas in a sonically lightweight framework,” said Logan. “These are fun songs about the end of the world.”

"Night Blooms in the Apocalypse" is a clear introduction to what Logan hopes to accomplish with Nightblooms and sets the foundation for a series of two additional EPs built respectively around the themes of love and the natural world. The “Apocalypse Trilogy” will be collected on Nightblooms’ debut LP which is expected in 2024 on Sleepy Cat Records.
